When I went through my NLP Master Practitioner training, everything I thought I knew about change shifted.
We had to both facilitate and receive two breakthroughs. That meant within twelve days I coached two women through breakthroughs and then went through two of my own. It stretched me to my limits. It showed me things I could never have understood without experiencing it.
When I had my self and family breakthroughs I felt light and expansive afterwards. Almost buzzy. But then the tiredness hit. After my family breakthrough I slept for nearly eleven hours that night. My body needed that much rest because of how deep the shift went.
Over the next week I noticed little differences. I caught myself paying attention to people’s words and choosing not to take on their energy. I would say to myself, unconscious mind do not take that on. And something even bigger happened. On a walk after my family breakthrough I had the clearest thought drop in. I want to study Counselling and Psychotherapy. I checked that day and enrolments were open. The timing could not have been more aligned.
That is what breakthroughs do. They pull out the taproot belief that has been running everything underneath. The one that makes your whole body react when it is touched. Anger. Tears. Shaking. Whatever the reaction is, it shows you it is the core. Once it is released, the system can finally breathe.
Facilitating breakthroughs for other women was just as powerful.
One woman had been quiet throughout training. Hardly any expression. After her breakthrough her voice carried passion and her body was alive with energy. Another woman shifted more subtly. Her posture softened, her tone was lighter, and she spoke with more ease.
That is the thing about breakthroughs. Sometimes the shift is obvious. Sometimes it is subtle. Both are real. Both are powerful.
This is why I now see breakthroughs differently to a coaching container.
A breakthrough is a deep process in one area of life. It could be self, family, health, relationships, career or spirituality. Two sessions. Each lasting four to twelve hours. They can be done back to back or within two weeks.
A Breakthrough Container is six weeks long. It still includes two breakthroughs but with support wrapped around them. We spend time preparing, identifying the presenting problem, checking in afterwards, and integrating before moving on to the next breakthrough.
A Coaching Container is also six weeks but it is broader. Here we use Time Line Therapy® for both negative emotions and limiting beliefs. It is an overall reset rather than focusing on just one area. Perfect if you feel heavy across your whole life rather than stuck in one theme.
So which is right for you
Breakthroughs or the Breakthrough Container if you know one area keeps pulling you back. Coaching if you want an overall reset across your emotions and beliefs.
What I know for myself is this. My family breakthrough did more than shift me. It showed me my path forward. It made it clear that I want to combine breakthroughs with psychotherapy. Not just to help women clear their own blocks but to help them break generational patterns of communication. To help mothers and children express their needs and feel understood.
That is where I am heading. And it started with one breakthrough.
Change does not have to take years. It does not even have to take six weeks. Sometimes it takes one breakthrough in the right place to free you at the core.
